RIVERSIDE CENTRE LOBBY UPGRADES

THE PROJECT

GPT Group engaged Outline Design Office to reimagine the lift lobby spaces on Level 18 and 20 of the Riverside Centre. GPT had a strong desire to create an engaging arrival experience on each floor that was warm and inviting with more of a hospitality sensibility, each with its own personality, and with a suitable level of quality to sit well within this legacy building.

Level 18 provided a unique opportunity to extend the lobby to create a shared space with access to natural light and key river views to support tenants on that floor and across the building. The design solution included a carefully curated joinery element with organic forms that complement the softened corners of the base building. These elements provide users with a choice of spaces and levels of privacy, including lounge, informal meeting and drop in zones. Planting was considered in the design approach to help define zones so that multiple spaces can be used at the same time.

Visual clues such as scale, colour and pattern are integrated into key design features to make wayfinding more intuitive. The lift fronts are articulated by coved wall paneling which creates a more enclosed scale as you arrive on the floor, gradually expanding and contracting as you move through to the tenancies. A tonal colour palette at the arrival also develops into richer and more earthy tones within the shared user space and floor tile patterns and ceiling features help to define tenant shopfronts.

The level 20 lift lobby has an entirely different look and feel to create a distinct difference between floors and the types of tenancies located on each floor. Rich burgundy coved marble wall paneling defines the lift area complimented by a textured, two-tone colour palette throughout the lobby space. Some key wayfinding design elements featured on level 18, such a tile pattern and feature ceilings were implemented again to define secondary circulation paths. Soft seating elements in the lobby supports an on floor waiting area.
