THE PROJECT

Our client presented us with a clear vision; to create a truly unique offering to the field of dermatology. With a brand value of ‘specialist treatment, expert care’, the desire to create a space that was wholly focused on patient comfort was clear from the outset. In collaboration with our client, we established some key objectives, to create a space that feels welcoming, clean but not cold, and most importantly, that makes patients feel at ease. Supported by a great location with access to expansive views and natural light, the patient arrival and waiting area integrates planting, a water station and soft seating to communicate a focus on wellness. The layout ensures patients have a sense of privacy with clear visual clues on how they can interact with the space. The consult rooms, while meeting exceptional medical grade performance including the latest in medical equipment, incorporate elements of timber and colour, creating warmth and relaxation, and assist in making the experience enjoyable. Staff are also supported by a breakout space with access to views and natural light and multiple work areas that are separated from the patient zone.

The materials used throughout were selected with longevity in mind. While the practice is new, the doctor leading the practice and his team have a long history of working in this field, and it was important to convey this strength within the design rationale. Elements such as texture, natural patterns and light were powerful design tools in both solidifying and communicating this strength. It is a desirable space that will drive change in patient expectations.
