BYTH CHAMBERS

RIVERSIDE CENTRE, BRISBANE CBD

THE PROJECT

The move to 300 George Street provided Byth Chambers with an opportunity to communicate the maturing of the Chambers and their brand.  As a group, Byth Chambers wanted the space to celebrate their youthfulness but professionalism. The space on Level 34 with expansive river and city views, supported a planning approach that accommodated both individual needs and growth.  The creation of a more open and inviting arrival space, with lush planting and natural materials to create warmth and interest, provides glimpses to spaces beyond the arrival zone. A multi-purpose space that functions as a meeting, social and event space is layered between the waiting area and back of house zones, reinforcing the groups desire for the space to communicate a sense of openness and trust. Visually connected from the waiting area, the colour and material palette is subtle in its application, with gentle variance creating pattern throughout the space and providing a neutral backdrop to the indoor planting to give lift and interest to this internal zone.  An impressive and unexpected bold pop of blue natural stone is the hero to the reception desk.

One of the planning challenges with designing Barristers Chambers is providing the right mix of chambers in various sizes, as well as easily accessible space for shared resources.  The result feels generous and each room captures a different view corridor, maximising the opportunity for the individual rooms to have their own unique identity to suit each barrister.  Shared spaces for support staff include a teapoint and utility zones that are easily accessible from all rooms.

This is a space that feels light and enduring, with nods to the legacy and history of their namesake.  It is a space that they can enjoy and share with clients and industry peers.
