KIRRA RESIDENCE

GOLD COAST, QLD

THE PROJECT

The refurbishment of this classic coastal apartment provided opportunities to reflect the stunning natural location and the owners desire for a refined yet relaxed home.  Part of the design challenge was building upon the existing finishes to create a seamless transition between old and new.  The kitchen island bench is the anchor of the space, with a beautifully detailed quartzite top reminiscent of a stormy night sea.  The stone repeated in the rear bench with walnut timber detailing, becomes a visual feature of the open kitchen connecting directly onto the main living space.

Similar detailing and use of highly figured natural stones, creates both consistency and differentiation between key spaces.   The master ensuite is conceived as a quiet retreat, bathed in light, the soft tones create a spa experience for everyday.  The Powder Room is the only internal space.  Use of deeper, warm tones provide a surprise respite from light and colour.

Indoor-outdoor connection is created with expansive sliding doors.  Balcony landscaping creates the effect of a sunken garden, extending the lounge area seamlessly and connecting to ocean views.  Lighting and feature fixtures reinforce the design aesthetic, playing with scale, materiality and whimsy.
