THE PROJECT

Outline Design Office was engaged by the building developer, Limitless, to provide interior design services for a single floor, the rooftop and communal areas within this unique development.  The brief for the single floor was to create a new offering to the shared workspace sector, that filled the gap between the usual co-working spaces and fixed tenancies.  We were delighted to have the opportunity to create work within this incredible building designed by Cavill Architects in collaboration with Hogg & Lamb Architects.  Spread across three floors, the base building already had the bones of a uniquely connected building with a shared atrium that celebrates a central staircase, vaulted ceilings, juliette balconies and walkways connecting each level.   Additional to this is an engaging rooftop space that supports a range of functions with flexible furniture and lounging, a BBQ and outdoor kitchen that can be used for client entertaining, staff breakout and informal meeting space.

Although the brief for single floor fitout changed as the design progressed, from shared co-working space to one that would accommodate a range of more permanent tenants including a ‘furniture showroom’ area for Wilkhahn, the initial design concept remained relevant.  Working in conjunction with the developer, we wanted the design elements for Level 2 to feel like a natural extension of the base building.   This was achieved by using consistent of materials, such as timber and bronzed anodized framing, and reinforcing the strength of the arched forms, but on a smaller scale. Importantly, we established that the space needed to strike the right balance between warmth and professionalism, to support a range of emerging businesses.

Transparency and light were key design ideas used throughout.  We created a layering of space through the use of planting and custom storage as well as the dowel timber screening which achieves clear delineation of zones, defining more energetic spaces from focused work zones.  The feature screen also forms a backdrop for writeable surfaces and provides a semi-transparent enclose for innovation.  Most of all, this is a desirable workspace that offers a variety of settings for focused work, formal meetings and energetic collaboration.
