THE PROJECT

This recently completed project provided an opportunity to evolve the workplace offering for our long-term client, Anglo American. The project, comprised of three contiguous floors, included a diverse range of specialist facilities including an Analytics Centre and Town Hall / Training Rooms, with large joinable rooms and specialist AV equipment. In addition to those spaces, the key focus of the project was to provide an improved and more engaging workplace, setting a new standard for future floors and refurbishment works to be undertaken within the existing premises.

The new design approach was centred around key objectives which included the desire to create consistency across all floors, provide larger and more desirable breakout spaces which would support increased collaboration and foster a united team culture, and introduction of a variety of new spaces to support choice and diversity. Adding complexity to the process, a COVID responsive solution and split workforce requirements needed to be imbedded into the design, which was evolving during the construction phase.

The breakout spaces have been detailed with a hospitality feel to provide a break away from the workzone. They include a range of seating options making them multi-functional for both dining and informal team discussions. The same design approach has been used on the typical floors and the specialist floor to create cohesion and consistency regardless of location. The central zone of the typical floors accommodates a new collaboration zone with large drop in benches, for visiting staff and team meetings, with lounge settings supported by writable and pinnable surfaces. The design approach is responsive to the future requirements of growth and the changing dynamic workplace utilisation.
